Regulations for Foreign Language Courses
Study Regulations for Foreign Language Courses
Regulations for Full-Time First- and Second-Cycle Degree Students
1. The Foreign Language Centre (Studium Nauki Języków Obcych – SNJO) provides foreign language courses (hereinafter referred to as “language courses”) in English, German, Russian, and French (French for students of foreign philology programmes). Additionally, SNJO offers elective (PSW) courses in English, German, Russian, and Spanish at various proficiency levels. Completion of these courses is governed by the general university regulations applicable to the subject.
2. The language course curriculum includes instruction for full-time first-cycle students in general language proficiency with elements of specialist language at B2 level, and for full-time second-cycle students in specialist language at B2+ level.
3. The language course comprises a total of 120 teaching hours over four semesters in first-cycle full-time studies (30 hours per semester, except where adapted to specific programme requirements), and 45 teaching hours over two semesters in second-cycle full-time studies (30 hours in the first semester and 15 hours in the second semester).
4. Students begin their language courses in accordance with their degree programme's curriculum. The course scope and ECTS credits are defined in the Course Syllabus.
5. Students are required to register for the language course during the token-based registration period each semester via the USOS online system.
6. Each language group has a limited number of places available for students.
7. Students are obliged to attend classes in the group for which they registered. A change of language is permitted only for students in their first semester of language study and only during the registration period in USOS.
8. Attendance in language courses is compulsory, except in the circumstances specified in point 9.
9. Learning outcomes achieved in language courses may be recognised without the requirement to attend classes or sit the examination on the basis of certificates, diplomas confirming completion of foreign philology studies, or completion of the same language course during previous studies. The recognition of learning outcomes is governed by a separate document entitled “Regulatgions for the Recognition of Learning Outcomes in Foreign Language Courses at SNJO UJD in Częstochowa”, available on the SNJO website.
10. Students holding the documents referred to in point 9 may apply for recognition of learning outcomes by submitting an application to the Dean of the relevant Faculty by 15 October (winter semester) or 15 March (summer semester).
11. A certified copy of the relevant document must be attached to the application.
12. The final decision is made by the Dean after obtaining an opinion from the Faculty Quality Assurance Team or the SNJO Quality Assurance Team.
13. If the decision is positive, the student must inform the language instructor. Recognition of learning outcomes does not exempt the student from registering for the course in the USOS system.
14. The final grade is determined based on the score provided on the certificate or diploma. The grade is entered into the USOS system by an authorized administrative staff member or the instructor.
15. Attendance is compulsory. Two unexcused absences per semester are permitted. These may not be used on announced test dates. Other absences must be justified within 14 days of returning to classes.
16. Absence from a class does not exempt the student from being prepared for the next lesson.
17. All absences resulting from mandatory student internships must be made up at a time agreed upon with the instructor.
18. If internships overlap with classes, the student is responsible for completing the curriculum and taking tests in the form and time specified by the instructor.
19. Instructors provide detailed credit requirements during the first class of the semester.
20. Credit is awarded based on grades, class participation, attendance, and the successful completion of the specialised language component (minimum 60%).
21. Unexcused absence from a test or failure to deliver an oral presentation on the scheduled date results in 0 points, which will be included in the semester average.
22. Failure to pass tests or exceeding the absence limit results in a failing grade for the semester. In such cases, the student must complete the course during the re-sit session. For e-learning courses, failure to complete at least 50% of the required tasks results in a failing grade.
23. The passing threshold for tests and exams is defined by the General Academic Regulations.
24. Tests are announced at least one week in advance.
25. Students have the right to review their graded written work and discuss it with the instructor.
26. Students are entitled to two retake attempts for any failed test. Each retake must occur within two weeks of receiving the results.
27. Failing a test three times results in a failing grade for the semester. The student must then take the test during the re-sit session.
28. The language course concludes with a compulsory examination, except as specified in the separate recognition document.
29. Failure to pass the final semester of the course prevents the student from taking the final exam (resulting in a failing grade for the first attempt).
30. Students are required to have the mandatory textbook and prepare systematically for each class.
31. Mobile phones must be silenced during classes.
